Description

Head Start is designed for new students who are starting their first college program at Fanshawe. It's an opportunity to learn more about Fanshawe, meet with staff and possibly faculty, as well as a chance to take care of some of the items you need to complete before the start of school.

Parents and supporters are welcome to attend.

During Head Start you will be able to:

Complete your WRIT - What is the WRIT? Does my program require WRIT?
Take a campus tour
Learn more about your program and Fanshawe from faculty and staff!
Discover how Fanshawe is Here for You with a student service fair (information booths).
Participate in two workshops

Schedule:
9 a.m. - Welcome presentation with Fanshawe Woodstock!
9:30 - 11:30 a.m. - Workshops
11:30 a.m. - Student Panel (for students) and Parent Session (for family/supporters)
12 p.m. - Lunch with your program representatives and a tour
12 p.m. - Service Fair (information booths)
1 p.m., 2 p.m. or 3 p.m. - WRIT assessment
1 p.m. - 3 p.m. - Financial Aid Drop in Sessions

Workshops (choose two)
1) Library presentation: How to research and write academic essays
2) Career Services: Professionalism as a student and connecting to your career
3) How to create an impressive Powerpoint presentation and an introduction to FOL
4) Learn Smarter, Not Harder: Educational psychology and brain research show us how the brain learns best. This presentation will give you an understanding of learning styles and will offer suggestions to enhance your classroom experience and study habits.
5) Cooking well when money is really tight: Building skills for food budgeting and cooking well when money is really tight. Workshop includes a demonstration of preparing a healthy meal

Before you come:
If you previously had an IEP or a documented disaibility, complete your Early ID before attending Head Start, this will help you during your time as a student, but may also provide support while you write your WRIT assessment during Head Start.

Coming to Head Start:
Stay overnight for an easy early morning. Book with the Quality Inn at 580 Bruin Blvd. Woodstock, Ontario.
